RUTX50 occasionally drops 2.4ghz wifi

Hi, does anyone know why my RUTX50 router occasionally drops its 2.4ghz wifi?

The router says the WiFi is on but has zero clients. The 4g/5g, the ethernet and the 5ghz WiFi are unaffected. This is fixed with a reboot?

Cheers, Rick

Hello,

To better assist and understand the situation, could you please clarify whether the issue is that connected clients (in STA mode) occasionally disconnect or if the entire 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network randomly becomes unavailable?

Additionally, did you start noticing this behavior after installing a recent firmware release, or has it been present consistently since the beginning?

If you haven’t tried this yet, try disabling the “Disassociate On Low Acknowledgement” option found in the 2.4 GHz access point settings (Network → Wireless → 2.4 GHz SSID configuration), and then observing if that improves stability.

Let me know if that improves described occasional drops.

Best regards,

Hi Martynas, thanks for replying. This has only started happening recently after a firmware upgrade although I couldn’t tell you how long ago (< 3 months).

I will try the "Disassociate On Low Acknowledgement” setting.

Regards, Rick

Hi Martynas, I tried the “disassociate on low acknowledgement” settting but i made no difference. I have set the router to reboot at 3am every day but this hasn’t made a difference either. Most of the devices affected are Tuya smart home devices which only use the 2.4GHz wifi. The odd thing is that the router says that the 2.4GHz is on but it has zero clients. Any other ideas as to what the problem may be?

Cheers, Rick.

Hello,

Thank you for the update and additional details. A few things you could try and check:

  • Have you tested leaving only a single 2.4 GHz radio enabled and connecting those smart home devices to see if stability improves?
  • Could you provide a screenshot showing the status page with “0 wireless clients” at the same time when the devices are connected?
  • Additionally, please check and share the system logs from the moment when these Wi-Fi drops occur (you can find them under System → Maintenance → Troubleshoot, by pressing the System logs icon). Feel free to hide any sensitive information before sharing.
  • Exclusively, if feasible, could you also try a factory reset of the device to see if it improves the Wi-Fi drops?
  • Lastly, just to confirm: how is the router powered? Ensure PSU provides at least 18 W for stable operation.

Best regards,
