I have been unable to get the TAT141 to send/receive SMS commands when using Verizon SIM cards. With AT&T SIM cards it works fine. I ran across this post for another product with a similar issue:
It was suggested to run this command to set the modem to text mode to fix it:
gsmctl -A ‘AT+QCFG=“ltesms/format”,1’
Is there a way to run this command on the TAT141? I do not see a way to SSH into the device. I would like to request firmware with this setting included as default. Can I get firmware like this so I can get SMS working?
This is due to sleep mode. When the TAT is in operating mode (device in site and no USB cable connected to it), the device will go to sleep mode, and here, the device will not be able to receive commands through GPRS
gsmctl -A ‘AT+QCFG=“ltesms/format”,1’ >> it will not work with TAT or any tracking device, also, you can’t connect to the device through SSH, as it is related to the networks (router/switches)
Thanks for your response. I am testing with the TAT141 plugged into my PC via USB. I try to send an SMS when there is a ping to the IP, and when the device is reporting to our server. Here is the command (space space getinfo):
getinfo
As I said before, I get a response if using an AT&T SIM card. But I cannot get a response with a Verizon SIM card. Is there a better way to make sure the TAT141 is not in sleep mode for testing SMS commands?
hello @trackertx
If you are testing the SMS, then there should be no issue with the sleep mode, as the SMS command on the operator side has a long TTL incomparable with the TTL of the GPRS command when you send it from the server side.
I suggest you check the RTC time in the status section when you connect the configurator.
