TRB500 still not connecting to 5G

I appreciate the rule that old threads get closed after 15 days but it would be nice if I could get at least a bit of help from one of the developers? My problem was not solved… I have a router here that really doesn’t work as intended…

I recently bought the TRB500 specifically to use the 5G network.
I installed it with mostly factory settings and it just won’t connect to 5G no matter where I place it. The SIM works on 5G with other routers and my phone. There is not great reception but there definitely is. I get decent 4G speeds but 5G would be faster and I would like to use it otherwise I could have just bought a cheap 4G router

I have updated router and modem firmware successfully already

Thanks for your help

Hi,
what do you mean with “does not connect to 5G”?
Does it connect to 4G?

Hi

Yes, it connects to 4G. It would have sufficient reception for 5G as I tested with other devices.

what modem firmware do you have?

Firmware version TRB500_R_00.07.09
Internal modem firmware version RG501QEUAAR12A08M4G_04.200.04.200

your modem firmware is not the latest one, but you can check if TRB see any 5G cells.
execute this command in ssh in one line:
ubus -t300 call gsm.modem0 exec ‘{“command”:“at+qscan=3”,“timeout”:300}’

This will show all available cells around you. If you get “NR5G” in response, then your router see 5G cells.
Then there are 3 things to do:

  1. double check if you are using correct APN
  2. update modem firmware to RG501QEUAAR12A11M4G_04.200.04.200, support might help here
  3. ask operator if it does not limit 5G usage for your card or equipment, 5G are controlled from network side, so there might be not TRB5 fault

I presume I run this command through CLI right?
I get “Failed to parse message data” as a response.

1: I have tested the AutoAPN function and manual with the APN provided by my carrier.
2: I just checked and I can’t seem to find a newer version than the one in this thread: TRB500 modem update proceedure
Could you send me in the right direction?
3: The SIM works on 5G on another router and my mobile phone so I guess it should be fine?

Thanks for your help!

yes, something wrong with pasted line. I will try to paste one more time:

ubus -t300 call gsm.modem0 exec '{"command":"at+qscan=3","timeout":300}'

The SIM works on 5G on another router and my mobile phone so I guess it should be fine?

It should, but some devices might get allowed in/approved by IMEI. But that’s last resort theory. Lets start with simple things.

Hmm it doesn’t seem to see NR5G. But with it’s external antennas, it should have better reception than my mobile phone that runs on 5G?
I’m trying to go and make it mobile so I can bring it close to the nearest 5G antenna and try again.

It depends on external antenna, these must be calibrated in that frequency.
If your mobile phone get 5G signal, try standard TRB5 antennas, these should be good enough to make test in the same place.

Yes, that’s what I mean. I’m using the standard antennas supplied by teltonika but since they’re external that’s why I mentioned it  Should we follow the modem firmware arc some more? I’d like to update it to the latest version.

Hello,

I have sent you a form to fill out. Once completed, I will contact you privately and send you the latest modem firmware. Please use “7574” as the ticket ID.

Best Regards,
