Hello, I just got myself the TRB500 yesterday and i was instantly quite unhappy with the speeds I am getting compared to my old 4g router, I spent several hours adjusting my setup trying to find a bottleneck which i could not find.
Decided to stay awake through the night to troubleshoot while the networks are quieter before making plans to return it.
I am in low signal 4g area so was not expecting miracles I also was not expecting such a drop off from what I have been used to.
Speeds seem to be capped at 20Mbps down and 0.4Mbps upload.
This is repeatable with 3 SIM cards across 2 different networks. Using my phone/old 4G router in the same location gives me the kind of speeds I usually get.
There are 2 exceptions to this, My Ubiquiti wireless AP (through a TP-LINK POE injector) seems to work okay, but its not a solution. the other is with the speedtester installed on the gateway via the package manager.
i’ve updated to the latest firmware TRB500_R_00.07.08.2
I noticed the vpn connected after i posted, But it does show that the speed is in the gateway I just don’t seem to get it to passthrough to my network switch or directly connected to my PC
[edit] just done another ipad test without the vpn on iPad 10 down 21 up.
This is interesting.
Only working with RUTX50’s so can’t say if that’s ‘correct’ or not…
Can you make sure your internet connection is IPv4 only in the settings (vs. default IPv4 IPv6 auto) and post a screenshot of your mobile connection quality data (the page with green yellow red info bars on the bottom).
Sorry that I can’t post explanation-screenshots right now as RMS isn’t working for me
Best i can tell i’m on ipv4 only. I have left support a message to get some help.
I came across a thread earlier saying OTA updates are not available for the TRB500
Okay so more digging about and troubleshooting I can confirm that the problem exists on my PC only (should always test more than one device I guess)
I have switched out cables to ensure it’s not that.
I googled how to use iperf3 and speeds are as expected. (Gigabit)
I have done a Network reset within windows 11.
None of which have improved the problem.
I switched back to the old router and test shows no sign of throttling or issues with cable or ethernet ports on PC
I think I have solved it. posting a reply here for anybody in the future.
My motherboard (MSI MAG B550) included with MSI Dragon Centre software, also bundles CFosSpeed traffic shaping software (which automagicly reinstalls itself on system reboots)
getting rid of MSI software stops this thing reinstalling. more testing to do but i things are looking much better!!
