Obviously documentation is something that should only happen after the fact. After rollout of the latest update to RUTX_R_00.07.05 the guest wifi set on RUTX50 stopped working and now not matter what configs I try it is impossible to make anything make sense, since old guides - Restricting guest network from accessing WebUI on RUTXHow to set up a guest WiFi network on RUTX - Teltonika Networks Wiki do not seem to apply to anything after the interface and half the functions have been reworked.
Can Teltonika please post an updated guide to this feature config for RUTX50? Will be much appreciated.
The guest WiFi configuration example for v7.04 is available here. However, this has not been updated for v7.05 yet. This will be done in the future. The configurations though are very similar.
A few notes:
When creating a Guest WiFi, you can enter the password on the general tab as this password is the same as the one you can configure in the security tab. Thus, there is no need to navigate to security tab, unless you want to change the encryption as well.
The other difference is that in the traffic rules configuration, you need to select TCP and UDP protocols individually, instead of picking a single TCP+UDP option.
That’s pretty much all the difference.
If you are having issues after upgrading to v7.05, please, reset the device to factory defaults and reconfigure the device. The difference between the previous versions and v7.05 is quite subtantial, and thus, it is highly recommended to update the device with ‘keep settings’ option disabled.
But I can not create a new LAN interface as it is written “Once you have saved the Wireless interface, a new window should pop-up.” And nothing pops up.
And there is no way after that to make things work with isolating guest network. No matter what I do with the firewall the networks remain cross-accessible and both 192.168.1.1 and 10.10.10.1 bring up interface from either network. If you don’t believe me, I can post more screen grabs. But since your inane settings of the forum make is impossible to actually post an answer and an explanation of why your product does not work - it is very hard to be bothered with every screen grab in a new post! As I’m “not allowed” to add more than one image in a post!
It is extraordinarily frustrating that you say “it works same as before” when very clearly it does not - else I would not be here asking the question since “before” there was no issue making it work.
And beggars belief that someone would roll out a major update without any documentation on functionality or operation.
From the screenshots, it seems that when you create a WiFi instance for guests, you select LAN as the network. The LAN network already exists and has an interface, thus this WiFi instance attaches to that network and an interface window does not pop-out when you press save&apply. You need to attach the WiFi instance to a custom (guest) network. This is identical as on the previous firmware versions and is mentioned in the guide (I marked it with blue color):
Also, I am not aware of your current configurations, but make sure to check your Firewall settings. Specifically, that guest zone is allowed to WAN, GuestZone covers GuestWiFi, and that the LAN zone does not include the GuestWiFi in covered networks.
-Custom- can not be selected. Under no circumstances I can select “Custom” as a valid option - it has to be either -No network- or Auto or any of the other options.
Selection of -Custom- is not possible.
If -Custom- is selected nothing happens, as soon as click off the list it reverts to lan or whatever other valid interface was selected previously.
Please, when pressing on the network field, ensure that you click on the ‘-- Custom --’ field and enter the name of your network directly in the drop-down menu where you have just clicked:
Please, update wiki, if only for your own convenience - if it is update with clear instructions, like the bit about typing in -Custom- name, I would not have to waste your time on the forum.
Updating all the wiki pages according to the latest firmware version can take some time. Due to the numerous pages and functionalities involved, it may not be possible to update them immediately. The priority is usually on the new and the most affected/changed functionalities. However, the old wiki pages will be updated in the future.
