RUTX50 eSIM to SIM - strange network behavior

Recently I’ve started using my RUTX50 in preparation for installation in our campervan.

As I want to be able to leverage eSIM functionality, I purchased 5ber - an eSIM to SIM solution that is able to load the eSIMs (through an Android) which allow me to use it on any other non-eSIM supported device.

What I noticed is that when these working eSIM profiles (that are loaded onto the card) are used in the RUTX50, they work for about 30 minutes, and then get rejected by the network - afterwards the profile is bricked and then also doesn’t work anymore in the phone when inserted back.
It seems that this is not the case for the Android phones themselves, the profiles remain active and don’t get blocked (as long as these are not used in the RUTX50)

The error the RUTX50 is providing after 30 minutes is “EPS services not allowed in this PLMN”.
What is the RUTX50 doing compared to a phone?

I’m asking the same question to the eSIM provider, and they indicated they are investigating blockage on the RSP / SMDP+ services - apparently the service that registers the profiles for use.

But it still doesn’t explain why this doesn’t happen on a phone, but does in the RUTX50.

I’m having the same problem with a RUTX11 and the eSim.me adapter.

Purchased an eSim profile and loaded it onto the eSimMe card via the app on a Pixel 8 with no issue. Tested it worked in the phone and then transferred it to the X11. It worked perfect for around 24 hours, then just stopped working.

I got various error messages in the UI like “Mobile EMM reject cause: PLMN not allowed” and “Mobile ESM reject cause: Requested service option not subscribed”.

So I transferred the sim back to my Pixel 8 and it no longer worked there, it refuses to connect to any network and just says either “denied”, “can’t connect” or “emergency calls only”.

I bought the eSim from esimholidays and messaged their support. After a bit of back and forth they issued me with a new eSim that worked perfectly! …but again, only for around 24 hours in the router then stopped working, and now that one also no longer works in my phone either.

So I spoke to the network provider (Orange Spain) and they said there is no issue at all with the eSIM profile that they can see. It is active, has no restrictions, and has data remaining. They said it must be a configuration issue with my device.

So it seems like the problem is either from using the eSimMe adapter, or from putting it in the teltonika.

@Mikej0h if you’re experiencing the same with the 5ber one, then it seems like the common denominator between the two is the router.

Did you get any further figuring anything out?

Hello @bennetimo,

Thank you for sharing this experience.

Could you confirm whether the initial issue replicates on the latest 7.13.3/4 firmware release?

If so, in order to investigate and troubleshoot this issue more thoroughly, we’ll need to contact you privately. Please submit the form that has been sent to the email address used to register on the forum. When completing the form, use the ticket ID: 12568-1. Kind regards,

Hi @Martynas, thanks for the very quick response!

I am using firmware RUTX_R_00.07.10.2, with modem firmware EG06ELAR04A20M4G and kernel version 5.10.224.

I can try to update to the latest firmware, but as the eSim no longer works even in my phone I’m not sure if I will be able to reliably test it without a different eSim profile to try.

I’ll fill out the form you sent now :+1:
