In an attempt to create security certificates to enable a secure HTTPS connection to login to the router it would seem that i have somehow deleted all existing certificates.
I can no longer login to the router via a browser.
I can get in using Putty.
Is it possible to recreate the required certificates to re-establish access to the router via the command prompt?
Could you confirm if you’re still facing this issue?
If so, you can try temporarily enabling HTTP to regain access to the WebUI with the following commands:
uci set uhttpd.main.redirect_https='0'
uci commit uhttpd
/etc/init.d/uhttpd restart
If this doesn’t resolve the issue, another simpler option would be to perform a factory reset, if feasible. This would restore the default settings and certificates, providing a simpler way to regain access.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
Thank you Martynas, I’ll try this, this evening when I get home and let you know how I get on.
Even if this works I’ll do a factory reset anyway. Regaining access even temporarily will allow me to remind myself how and where I setup access to my USB hard drive, create reboot schedules, and create mailing and text alerts etc.
I have now regained access to my router using a browser with an HTTP connection.
I’ll now refamiliarise myself with where and how to do a few things before i go for a factory reset tomorrow.
After a factory reset, do i presume that i’ll have to reconnect myself by default with an HTTPS connection without the need to setup and create certificates and download them and install them!?
Thank you for the update. Yes, starting from firmware version 7.12, HTTPS redirect is enabled by default on RUTX devices. You will not need to set up, create, or manually install certificates after a factory reset.

Yes, this is normal. The security warning appears because the OpenWrt router uses a self-signed SSL certificate, which is not trusted by default in web browsers.
If you’d like to remove the warning completely, please refer to the guide here.
knowing it’s strangely normal, i’m leaving alone. Following the instructions given generated an error and the strange deletion of all the certificates and keys, promptly followed by being kicked out and no longer being able to log back in again and a factory reset.
I don’t want to go through that again.
I’m happy knowing it’s normal for the device/product being used.
