RUTX09 RutOS v7.14(.1) with WireGuard over WAN interface

Hi,

I ran into a problem with VPN WireGuad in RutOS v7.14(.1) and the WAN interface. I use WireGuard in client mode (no fixed public address) and connect to a Mikrotik peer (server). After upgrade and reboot to v7.14. the WireGuard tunnel works. But just WireGuard tunnel Disable/Enable and it does not reconnect anymore. This only happens when using the WAN interface. With Cellular interface it works properly. Workaround is only to reboot (reload). Version v7.13.4 does not suffer from this bug.

Greetings,

I’ve tested the described WireGuard client behavior on RutOS 7.14.2 and wasn’t able to reproduce a similar issue; the tunnel successfully reconnects after restarting it via WebUI as well as after a reboot when using the WAN interface.

Could you please check whether this behavior still persists on your end with the 7.14.2 firmware installed (correct installation instructions are provided here)? Additionally, have you tried sending pings from the client’s peer to the server immediately after restarting the tunnel to see if it triggers a proper handshake and re-establishes the connection?

Best regards,

Hi

Sorry for the late response.

The problem is not that the WireGuard tunnel doesn’t boot after reboot. The problem only occurs with the “Enabled on/off” tunnel in the WebGUI. Once the tunnel is running and I put “Enabled off” and save it, the tunnel exits, but after “Enabled on” and saving, the tunnel no longer resumes. This is also the behavior of the latest RutOS v7.15.2. The latest version in which I get the tunnel to resume after “Enabled on” and saving is RutOS 7.13.4. WAN Cellular it behaves correctly.
