Locked out of my device

Hi,

I just did a factory reset yesterday before realizing I am not able to read the default random password anymore. So I past my day compiling the sdk and the firmware to get rid of it.

Now the webui throws me an error about ART and to big files!
Annoying! What should I do I need my router?!

Something went wrong during update. Probably you have chosen wrong file (too big or too small) or you were trying to update ART on device with unknown FLASH type (and size) which is not allowed. Please, try again or contact with the author of this modification. You can also get more information during update in U-Boot console.

Any help welcome! Thanks

Hi…

About label password…

Did you read this?

or… maybe this?

Ok thank’s but why can’t I upload the firmware?

Not allowed! Amazing! What a joke is this?! 300$ thrown out the windows! How great is this

hi…

Try the old firmware, first… using bootloader…

Sample for RUT95x

then… download to it initial fw release… and after this… go step by step, following major upgrades.

Hi,

Thank’s for advice.

So yes I have a unique password on my RUTX11 device of batch 61.

As of RUTX11 product change notification of 2023.10.30: “Firmware Requirement Change” the latest firmware supported is 7.05.03 so I went with this one.

Still the same password and still unable to flash my custom firmware with my own password on that firmware.

I was actually able to flash my custom firmware when I was on version 2.00.01

Who makes a sticker witch scratches off this easy on a rugged router which should been deployed in harsh environnements?! Should the sticker not being also a “rugged” one? Something that whitstands harsh environnements? Maybe some oil vapour around or what not?

Why can one not upload his own firmware on a device he own’s? Why can’t people manage their own insanely hardened default password on his own custom firmware if he needs this?

Where did I sign for getting locked out this easy of a not so cheap device?

Fortunately my device is still under warranty so I know Teltonika support will do the necessary to get my device in a usable state again.

I am now recompilling the firmware but I changed the GPL version… hope this helps!

Hello @kesson,

We’d like to inform you about updates related to the issue where the label gets damaged, resulting in the device being locked and the password not being saved anywhere.

We have new products coming soon that will feature improved mounting options to avoid using velcro or similar stickers, which often lead to these situations. Until devices with anodized aluminum cases are available—allowing us to engrave key information—we plan to use higher-quality stickers to reduce the chances of this happening.

We understand that these situations can be frustrating and cause inconvenience. It’s important to highlight that we don’t retain credentials for extended periods due to the strict security standards we follow. While this may be inconvenient when the label is damaged, maintaining security is a top priority. Unfortunately, “safe” and “convenient” don’t always align, but we’re working to find the right balance and improve where possible.

As per standard procedure, if the default password is lost and access to the device is no longer possible, the correct step is to initiate an RMA process through the distributor. This ensures the issue is resolved securely and in line with our internal policies.

Additionally, when purchasing devices directly from us, there’s an option to receive a file containing device details, including passwords, at the time of purchase.

Best regards,
