Issue with Mobile Network Connection - RUTX50 - 5G N78 band

Dear Support Team,

I am using several RUTX50 devices in our company, and I have recently encountered an issue where all devices occasionally lose their connection to the mobile network.

I have noticed that this issue can be reproduced when performing a 5G speed test or download a large file. After approximately 30 seconds, the connection to the mobile network is re-established.

Additionally, I observed that the speed test completes successfully when the 5G network achieves a download speed of approximately 50 Mbps. However, in areas with a very strong 5G network, the connection breaks down.

I tested the SIM card in my phone, and the speed test completed without any problems.

I have tested it also with the latest firmware 7.11

Do you have any ideas or suggestions to resolve this issue?

Kind regards,
Jörg

Hello, is the correct power supply used? In what temperature routers operate?

I’m using the delivered power supply. I did the test in my laboratory at 20°C.

Hi, is the right power source being used? What temperature range does a router work in?

Here the overview

overview of the mobile network when it is working without any problems (poor 5G network)

overview of the mobile network. With that the connection breaks down (good 5G network)

Furthermore, I discovered that if I disable the 5G N78 band, the modem remains connected to the mobile network. However, as soon as I re-enable the band, the connection drops again.

Looking by signal values, I doesn’t look as good 5G signal and coverage

Of course, the network quality could be better, but as soon as I disable the 5G band N78, I can run a speed test without any interruptions.
When the band is activated, it does not work, and the connection is re-established.

Why does the RUTX50 struggle so much with the N78 band?

Maybe you can give more details about interruption? Do you see some messages in Webui that modem is unreachable or what? How you can explain the meaning of “interruption”?

I hope I can explain clearly what happens.

As soon as I start the speed test and refresh the web interface, it only shows “Loading.” After about 30 seconds, the web interface becomes visible again, and under “Status/Network/Mobile/Data Connection State,” it says “Disconnected.” It then takes a while before it switches back to “Connected.”

Is it possible to create a log file?

Could you try not to refresh the page when speedtest is started? I’m curiuos if just “disconnected” appears or just whole information is being lost, also please try to go to Overview page before going to do speedtest and check if there are no messages about modem when speedtest is going.

Also, please hide some private info in pictures as those can be used for bad actions

Yes, you can create log file but I think Teltonika support should give you instructions how to transfer it securely

Thanks for your support!
here the screenshot of the overview during the speed test (with N78 Band active)

After a while all information were visible

What about status page? Maybe you can open CLI, write “logread -f”, start speedtest and show the output without private details?

tried to work with CLI, but system told me “can’t change directory to ‘/user’

Do you use non root user to.connect to CLI?

Here a link to the logread-file

That’s interesting, it looks like connection tracker doesn’t get response about data connection state and connection restarts. Also, are you sure that your SIM is allowed to use 5G network? Also, can you try to turn off VoLTE and try one more time?

Many thanks.
I have switched off the VoLTE and now it is working.

Wow, strange one, but most important that it helps :grinning:

Unfortunately, I have bad news. I tested it this morning (VoLTE is off), and the speed test only works when the N78 band is disabled.

The behavior is quite strange:

  1. Open the WebUI of the RUTX50.
  2. Open a second tab with Speedtest and start the test.
  3. Switch back to the WebUI.
  4. After a few seconds, the WebUI stops responding
  5. It seems like the router restarts during this process.

With N78 deactivated everything is working fine.
