WiFi WAN on TAP200 (AP)

Hi, I bought 2 TAP200 units to extend the range of our network. My idea was that the TAP200 would connect to the existing Wi-Fi via WAN Wi-Fi to connect to my router and thereby provide a connection and continue to share this. But now that I’ve bought the units, it seems like the TAP200 needs to be connected via an Ethernet cable using PoE. Is there no possibility to get a connection via Wi-Fi WAN?

I read this guide, but it might apply to routers and not to access points from Teltonika: WiFi WAN example - Teltonika Networks Wiki.

Is it possible to do what I had in mind with the TAP200, or should I return the products? I would appreciate any help and answers, and I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

Hello,

There is no need to apologize, we are always here to help

You cannot use TAP 200 as a Wi-fi client, however, from firmware version TAP200_R_00.07.07.1 there is mesh functionality added. So you can use your TAP200 as a mesh nodes in order to extend the range of your network. In order for the mesh network to work, your router needs to support Wireless mesh (802.11s). Also, you will still need PoE injector to power the TAP 200 itself.

Update this device firmware to the latest which you can find here:
(TAP200 Firmware Downloads - Teltonika Networks Wiki)

Then you can try to set up Wi-fi mesh network as in example here:

I hope this answers your question.

Kind regards.
