WAN Performace Numbers?

Folks
Looking to deploy large numbers (thousands) of WAN routers and cannot find guidance on expected performance values.

I know it is feature/deployment specific but even as a starting point so we could test some units ourselves.

Looking at a box which can do

  • DHCPv4 and v6
  • BGP very small number of routes <10 routes
  • PPPoE
  • VLAN
  • WAN Ethernet
  • LAN Ethernet
  • 500Mbps full duplex performance
  • 1000 Mbps full duplex performance
  • Basic firewalling allow certain ports in/out
  • No NAT today
  • 4 LAN ports
  • 5G could be a separate box also.

Thanks
Kevin

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. When it comes to wired WAN, achieving the desired speeds is straightforward— a Gigabit port supports full-duplex communication, allowing it to transmit and receive data at 1 Gbps simultaneously. Additionally, LAN ports can be configured as WAN, providing an extra Gigabit wired WAN interface.

For the 5G performance, it’s a bit more nuanced, as the actual throughput heavily depends on various factors such as your ISP’s service quality, proximity to cell towers, signal strength, and the specific bands in use.

Please note that actual performance will depend on your specific network environment and configuration. It is advisable to conduct testing in your own setup to confirm that the selected units meet your performance expectations.

Since WiFi connectivity was not mentioned, I assume it is not part of your requirements. Based on this, I would recommend the following devices for your deployment:
