I have a Teltonika RUT901 modem. I created a VPN hub in RMS. The device is online yet I can’t ping it and I can’t access its settings in the browser directly by IP address when the VPN is running. So I can’t reach any device connected to it. Through the RMS system I can access the menu of the device and see the topology, what devices are still connected to it. Yet I cannot reach the other devices e.g. OMRON plc, HMI.
What else should I configure?
Could you please clarify whether you are unable to reach only the devices behind the RUT901 via the RMS VPN hub, or if you also cannot reach the RUT901 itself via its VPN IP?
I would like to kindly remind you that in order to connect to the device via its VPN IP, you will need to download the OpenVPN Connect app and import the configuration file from the RMS VPN Hub.
You can use the Teltonika RMS VPN app to connect, but please note that the Windows version is still in beta. As such, it may have some issues. For now, we recommend using the OpenVPN Connect app to avoid potential connection problems.
For testing purposes, you can try connecting using OpenVPN Connect. If the issue persists, please let me know the following:
Could you please share more details about your setup? Specifically:
What devices are you using?
What are you aiming to achieve?
It would also be very helpful if you could provide a network topology that includes the devices, their IP addresses, and the location where the VPN should be configured.
I would also like to connect a PLC and HMI and access them from a long distance, retrieve data and send it to the devices. The RUT901 device would be connected to the network via a mobile network.
In the VPN connection, the PC can be accessed on IP 192.168.250.6 and the RUT901 device can be accessed on IP 192.168.250.10. Within the VPN HUB, the Routes tab has the local network IP of the RUT901 device and the network 192.168.255.0 because the LAN connection will have the devices on this network.
I connect to the PC via OpenVPN Connect and still I cannot ping the RUT901 device, I cannot access the settings in the node on the IP 192.168.250.10
Thank you for the information. If I understand correctly, you have a RUT901 at a remote location with devices connected to it, and you want to configure a VPN to access the RUT and its connected devices remotely. If that is the case and you are using RMS, you should delete your existing OpenVPN configuration from the WebUI, as it is not needed in this setup.
After removing the configuration in the WebUI, please reconfigure the RMS VPN Hub by following these instructions: RMS VPN Hubs. For the initial setup, do not add routes—simply create a client user and a client device, then check if you can access the RUT via the RMS VPN IP.
If the issue persists after reconfiguring everything, please let me know.
