VoLTE switch RUTx50

@Marijus, I see. Can you then please explain the purpose of the voLTE switch in your picture?

Your reply

With an external VOIP phone, you can make and receive calls easily as we have VoLTE functionality

together with the picture from the link below doesn’t make sense in this context in response to the original question since a voip phone normally uses SIP over ethernet which is outside of voLTE.

From previous conversation: RUT-200 does it work with a VOIP phone - #7

Hello,

It might be confusing, but VOIP and VoLTE are two different protocols, each with its own advantages.

VOIP:

  • Designed to work on any kind of network, regardless of the technology used, whether it’s cable, mobile, or any other.

VoLTE:

  • Designed to work exclusively on 4G networks, bringing several advantages:

    • Seamless Integration: VoLTE integrates smoothly into LTE networks, using dedicated voice channels to ensure voice traffic is prioritized and routed optimally.

    • Quality of Service (QoS): LTE networks prioritize VoLTE traffic, ensuring high call quality and reliability. In contrast, VoIP over general internet connections can suffer from congestion and variable quality.

    • HD Voice: VoLTE often provides better call quality, known as HD Voice, due to wider audio bandwidth and lower latency. VoIP quality can vary depending on the internet connection and network conditions.

    • Lower Latency: VoLTE generally offers lower latency compared to VoIP, leading to fewer delays during calls.

    • Faster Call Setup: VoLTE calls typically connect faster than VoIP calls because the network is optimized for voice traffic.

To summarize, enabling VoLTE offers better call quality in many of the above-mentioned areas.

Best regards,

@Marijus, this is also my understanding.

However since the rutx50 doesn’t have any POTS and the i2s on the RG50x-chip doesn’t seem to be exposed and there is no sip-to-volte proxy builtin, given your earlier response, there is no obvious way for me to access the VoLTE audio stream on the rutx50. Is the rutx50 perhaps Core Audio compliant so that I can connect an external soundcard to the usb port to gain access to the audio stream?

If none of the above works then I fail to see how I as the end user can benefit from volte on the rutx50.
