Using Wireguard instead OpenVPN

Hello ,

I currently uses RUT950 configured with OpenVPN and ProtonVPN .ovpn files. I want to use Wireguard.

I.
ProtonVPN page How to set up Proton VPN on an OpenWrt router using OpenVPN | Proton VPN mentions that " ProtonVPN only support OpenWrt 22.03+. If you’re running an older version of OpenWrt, we recommend upgrading to the latest version of the firmware. …"
So i have to upgrade RUT950 firmware to its last version.

However RUT950 Firmware Downloads page RUT950 Firmware Downloads - Teltonika Networks Wiki mentions that " RUT9_R_00.07.01 | 2021.11.18 includes an update of the "base to OpenWrt version 21.02" .
All latest firmware version Changelog don’t mention OpenWRT version.

Question 1 : How to know OpenWRT version which is included in the last firmware version ?

II.
Currently, OpenVPN allows RUT950 to get a WAN public IP address, so that my LAN equipments can connect to their WAN remote server.
I want to keep this functionality.
Question 2 : Can Wireguard allows it ?

Thanks for you support,

Hello,

Apologies for the delayed response.

  1. To check which OpenWrt version your current device firmware is based on, use the command cat /etc/openwrt*. The latest RutOS firmware is based on OpenWrt version 21.02.
  2. You can achieve similar functionality with WireGuard as you would with OpenVPN. I recommend reviewing the detailed instructions provided on our wiki page: WireGuard Configuration Example.

Please let me know if you have any further questions on this topic.

Best regards,
