I’ve been running an RUTX50 as a domestic router for several years now. I have a 600/50 5G SA connection from Elisa in Finland and performance is okay I guess (the connection has started dropping for no apparent reason recently though…)
I have been browsing the Teltonika router product category (like the example link below) but I find it difficult to tell the differences between the products.
So I have an RUTX50, single 5G SA SIM and 4 x MIMO antennas. I see there is a RUTM56, I honestly don’t know if this is an NA or EMEA device but I notice it has slots for 2 x LTE and 4 x 5G antennas, I don’t know if those are included in the box though.
Rough comparison images of the RUTX50 and RUTM56 below.
I assume at this point an “upgrade” would be to a dual modem unit, with better CPU and more memory or what criteria should I be looking at? It would be used indoors and should be optimised for 5G SA. I would then consider selling the RUTX50 and then look to upgrade if anyone thinks that would be worthwhile and if so could recommend a model for the EMEA region.
There is absolutely no point updating from RUTX50 to anything else. And your connection dropping might be your provider issue. I had same issue with brand new RUTX50. Changed my provider, issue resolved. I would suggest investigating your problem, resolve it, and continue using your current device.
Thank you @heartless & @Marcelo.Barros my question wasn’t around looking to purchase a new device because the RUTX50 has been disconnecting. It was basically that I purchased the device exactly 3 years ago now and when I bought it i didn’t know that 5G NSA and SA was even a thing, I’ve learned a lot. And here in Finland I wasn’t able to get a SIM only SA account until last year.
So I had been wondering if now that 5G SA is more common that maybe there’s a more powerful router model for internal use with better antennas etc. The router product page on Teltonika’s site doesn’t really tell me much and I freely admit I am no expert at all.
I don’t know if its my ISP but the performance of the RUTX50 has been better in the past. Again not my reason for upgrading.
Hi, I’m assuming the RUTM52 might be an upgrade over the RUTX50 as it has dual 5G modems and additional antennas. So it would in theory offer more 5G SA bands for connectivity. I have no idea if that would make the overall connection faster though.
RUTM52
Antennas 8 x SMA for Mobile, 2 x RP-SMA for Wi-Fi, 1 x SMA for GNNS
RUTX50
Antennas 4 x SMA for Mobile, 2 x RP-SMA for Wi-Fi, 1 x SMA for GNNS
@heartless@Marcelo.Barros my stupidity in this case. I was using the PC provided by my employer and they installer a “Zscaler” cyber security system which I didn’t notice was affecting the Speedtest app tests. The upper examples are from a personal PC.
