Unique Public IP per Device

Hi there, I am not sure if this is the right spot to ask this question, so please forgive me beforehand.

I am currently looking at getting the Teltonika RUTX12, but I am wondering if anyone can answer this question. Does it have the ability to assign a unique Public IP for each new device connected? For example, I am currently using my phone to hotspot 5 other devices at our house, and they all have unique public IP addresses. Does the Teltonika RUTX12 have that capability? If I insert my 4g Simcard in there, will each new device I connect to it get a new public IP?

Thanks for answering in advanced.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. The Teltonika RUTX12 does not have the capability to assign a unique public IP address to each device connected to it. When you insert a 4G SIM card into the router, the cellular network typically provides only one public IP address to the router itself. By default, all devices connected to the router will share this public IP address via Network Address Translation (NAT).

That said, the RUTX12 supports Bridge and Passthrough modes, which might be useful depending on your requirements:

  1. Bridge Mode: In this mode, the router bridges the LTE data connection with the LAN network. The WAN IP address assigned to the router is instead assigned to the first device connected to the LAN port (or a device specified by MAC address). Other connected devices will not get unique public IPs.
  2. Passthrough Mode: Similar to Bridge mode, the router shares its WAN IP with a single LAN device, allowing the selected device to use the public IP of the RUTX12 instead of a LAN-assigned IP.

I hope this gives more clarification.

Best regards and happy New year!
