TSW212 - Profinet GSD

Hello.
Please provide information regarding profinet communication in the TSW212 switch. I am interested in the word DEVICE STATUS. There are 10 bits there, the meaning of which I do not know. I assume that this is information for each port, but what information. I have 6 ports connected and only 2 in DEVICE STATUS are true. The second issue is whether there is any way to speed up the start-up of the switch because it is the slowest device in the system and all devices are waiting to be able to establish communication, which in my case is problematic.

Best regards

Hello!

Regarding the TSW212 switch and its PROFINET communication, the DEVICE STATUS word indeed contains 10 bits, each representing the status of a specific port. However, the exact meaning of each bit can vary depending on the switch’s configuration and firmware version. Generally, these bits indicate the operational status of each port, such as whether the port is active, has a link, or is experiencing errors.

For your specific case, where only 2 out of 6 connected ports show as true in DEVICE STATUS, it might indicate that only those 2 ports are currently active or have a valid link. You may want to check the configuration and connection status of the other ports to ensure they are properly set up and connected.

As for speeding up the start-up of the TSW212 switch, there are a few potential steps you can take:

  1. Firmware Update: Ensure that your switch is running the latest firmware version. Firmware updates can sometimes include performance improvements and faster boot times.
  2. Configuration Optimization: Review the switch’s configuration settings to ensure they are optimized for your network setup. Disabling unnecessary features or services can help reduce start-up time.
  3. Power Supply: Verify that the switch is receiving a stable and sufficient power supply, as power issues can sometimes cause delays in start-up.

Hope this helps!
