TSW202 + TSW114, PoE

Hello,

I have a small network with a TSW202 (FW: TSW2_R_00.01.05; batch 1) and a TSW114 (batch 28). I would like to power the 114 via PoE from the 202.

PoE is enabled on all ports as per FW defaults, and the 202 is supplied with 48V. However, connecting ethernet to the 114’s first port does not power the device.

Per 202 docs, there is a PoE mode change between batches, but I’m not sure if that is the root cause here.

Are these devices not PoE-compatiable with each other? Thanks.

Hi,

TSW202 powers devices using active PoE but TSW114 accepts only passive PoE so it will not power it. Also there additional disclaimer when connecting these devices https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/TSW202_Powering_Options#Disclaimer:_TSW202_and_Passive_PoE_devices

Thanks, that makes sense.

What should I replace the 114 with in order to leverage PoE? Just another 202?
I cannot find any active-PoE unmanaged switches in the product line-up.

TSW 202 can only power other devices with PoE but it cannot be powered by it. I am not entirely sure if Teltonika has any switches that can be powered with active PoE.

Looking at the product portfolio there are no managed switches with passive PoE out, not indeed any unmanaged switches with active PoE in.

Just to sanity check: is the setup of one (1) managed switch and multiple unmanaged PoE-powered switches considered logical?

I’m open to alternatives, but I’m looking to minimize the number of power supplies.
