TRB500 Teletonika Router

Hi. Bought a TRB500 to my boat. What did not understod was that this router missing wifi. What is the best product to buy to get the router to set up wifi. I got the router in my sailingboat so just, so just nead a wifi working in the boat +20 meters…

Hello,

The TRB500 is a gateway device and does not support WiFi functionality.

You can view our selection of routers that support WiFi on our official website here: Teltonika Ethernet and 4G/5G Cellular Routers

Additionally, you can filter routers by the features you need and compare up to four devices side-by-side to help with your selection.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or need assistance.

Hi Marija,

I understand. But would the TRB500 work with a device like this?

I’m looking for a solution where I can use the router I’ve already bought to create Wi-Fi on my boat, instead of buying a brand-new router and losing the investment I’ve already made.

Hello,

Unfortunately, TRB devices do not support Wi-Fi adapters. This is because they are designed primarily as cellular gateways rather than full-featured routers. As a result, they lack the necessary drivers and configuration options for external Wi-Fi adapters—their firmware is optimized for cellular WAN and Ethernet LAN usage, not for Wi-Fi connectivity.

Additionally, please note that the TRB500 does not have a USB-A port, only a Micro-USB port.

Best regards,

It means I just throw the router in the bin and buy a new one?

Ore would a RUT140 work as a complement to my TRB500? Meaning that I connect the RUT140 with the TRB500 and set up a wifi in my boat?

Regarding the RUT140, you can connect it to the TRB500 via an Ethernet cable. This way, the RUT140 can receive internet access provided by the TRB500’s mobile connection.
You can then use the RUT140’s wireless capabilities to share the internet with wireless clients.

More information about wireless settings and configuration examples can be found here: RUT140 Wireless - Teltonika Networks Wiki.

Hi Marija,

Many thanks! Is this the best solution to create Wi-Fi on my boat using the TRB500?

And did I understand correctly that the RUT140 gets power via the Ethernet cable from the TRB500, or do I need to connect it using the power cable?

You are welcome!

If you only require Wi-Fi functionality, this can be achieved with any router that supports wireless technology. However, if you need additional features, please let me know so we can help select the most suitable router for your requirements.

Regarding power:
The RUT140 can be powered using the 3-pin power socket with a compatible power supply. It also supports Passive PoE via the LAN port. Please note, however, that TRB devices do not provide PoE, so they cannot power the RUT140 directly.
More information about powering options can be found here: RUT140 Powering Options - Teltonika Networks Wiki

An Ethernet cable in this setup is only necessary to provide internet connectivity.

Best regards,

Hi Marija. It’s only Wi-Fi functionality I require. And thanks for the information regarding the power.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions!
