Hi! I would like to buy a TRB500 gateway to use it for internet access and mobile telephony too.
So I do some research before buying it and I see in the user manual that there is an option for VoLTE.
How can I use the VoLTE feature?
Hi, it’s on automatic mode by default, but you can control it (turn on or off) via WebUI too.
Thanks for the reply! Ok yeah, but how can I use it to make phone calls? What type of terminal equipment do I need, and how should I configure it?
For example other 5G routers like the NX510v from TP-LINK or the MC888 from ZTE, have an analog telephone port (FXS) for connecting a simple analog phone device to make usual phone calls through the mobile telephony subscription provided by the mobile carrier with the SIM card.
My ideal scenario is to get an outdoor 4x4 MIMO 5G router, like the TRB500 enclosed in a QuMax A500M outdoor antenna by QuWireless, and find some way to convert the VoLTE to SIP, in order to connect it to my internal self-hosted VoIP PBX.
So what can I do with the VoLTE feature of TRB500, beyond turning it on or off? Why is it there?
Hi @johnsapnas,
I could be wrong, but none of the Teltonika devices (that I’m
aware of) can make phone calls. Use e.g. a Linksys PAP2T.

So what can I do with the VoLTE feature of TRB500 or RUTX50 or any other Teltonika router/gateway, beyond turning it on or off? Why is it there?
I see in the release notes of the firmware updates that there are changes/fixes regarding the VoLTE feature for many Teltonika routers/gateways, including the TRB500, and this makes me understand that there is some kind of active development regarding this feature, which makes me think that it is useful in some way. So why is it there and how can it be used?
Hi @johnsapnas,
interesting question
You obviously searched the wiki, I did that too. I also searched
through the GUI of a spare RUT241 which I have here. Found
nothing.
Maybe the Telkonika staff can shed some light on this.
I have turned VoLTE off on all of my devices because it seems
to make the connection more stable in low signal conditions,
although this could be just coincidences.

Hello,
VoLTE functionality is used to not lose internet connection, once you receive a phone call to the router. If the VoLTE functionality is turned on, you will not lose internet connection when receiving a phone call to the router. If it is turned off, once receiving a phone call, router will lose internet connectivity via mobile modem.
Kind regards,
Yes
I guess you are an enigma master…
This is an amazing answer making total sense, I wouldn’t think of it!
I use VoLTE for my smartphone, exactly for this reason, to not lose internet connectivity during calls. But in Greece, for 4G/5G routers almost everyone uses dedicated internet access SIM cards with unlimited monthly data and SMS, but no voice services at all. The voice services are restricted by the providers for this cards.
Thank you for solving this mystery!
Hope Teltonika will provide in the future a “VoLTE to SIP proxy” feature.
