TRB143 LAN IP from router

Hello everyone, how do I have to adjust the LAN settings so that the TRB143 is assigned the IP address from my router in the network? I want to use the router’s DHCP server and not the TRB143. Is that possible?

I thought that would work, but then I no longer have a connection because the TRB probably doesn’t get an IP assigned.

Thanks for the feedback.

Can nobody help?

Hi, @Zwen! Welcome back to our community. I sincerely apologize for the delay in responding to your post.

To provide the best solution, we may need more information, can you clarify the end goal for enabling this feature?
If possible, kindly provide me a topology of the scenario you wanted to achieve, there’s more than one fit solution for this.

Meanwhile, here’s a possible solution for you. Kindly provide feedback on whether this is the kind of solution you’re looking for, since I still need some clarifications based on your question to have a bigger picture of what you’re trying to achieve.

Here’s a brief step for you to follow:

  1. In the WebUI of your router, Navigate to Network → VLAN → Port Based.
  2. Create a new VLAN. If you want to use Interface LAN 1 as a DHCP Client, turn off the LAN port 1 for the VLAN 1 (default) and make it untagged for the new VLAN you just created.
  3. Save & Apply
  4. Navigate to the Network → WAN, scroll down, and set a new interface by pressing Add.
  5. A window will pop up, select the DHCP protocol in the Protocol field.
  6. Navigate to the Physical Settings in the same window, then select the interface you just created earlier. (e.g. VLAN3 - eth0.3).
  7. Navigate to the Firewall Settings on the same window and make sure that the firewall zone is set as WAN
  8. Save & Apply

The configuration above will set LAN Port 1 as a WAN Interface, therefore it will be a DHCP Client. Please, provide feedback on whether this is fit for you as there are other options.

Note: Disregard if the new WAN shows as a “Wireless” Interface. It is a Wired interface nonetheless.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know!

Best Regards

Thank you for your feedback.

I will test it this evening and then get back to you.

Hi,
just go to Network->WAN, create new interface, select protocol DHCP, then in physical settings select “br-lan” and save. You will get DHCP IP for TRB from you main router.
Don’t forget to disable TRB’s DHCP server in Network->DHCP page.

Thank you very much.

That worked so far. However, after a few minutes I no longer have a connection to the device.

These are the last events before I no longer have a connection.

These are my settings in the WAN area.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this?
Do you need more information?

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi,
you need to change firewall “zone” in wan2, or allow remote access.
Firewall is blocking you.

Ok thank you. I will test it later.

Are these the correct settings? Unfortunately the connection is still aborted?

“Health checker DNS resolution started to fail”

Could it be a problem that I have a mobile data connection and the connection via the router?

You did open firewall completely, so this configuration should allow to connect to router.
Have you disabled “lan” configuration in Network->LAN? this might override your “wan2” settings.
Mobile data should not be used, because you have higher priority WAN2.

Lan is disabled.

At the beginning I also have a connection and am assigned an IP address by the router. After about 30 minutes the TRB can no longer be reached.

I can still access the device via the mobile data connection and VPN.

After a restart I have connection again for a few minutes.

that is strange, can you check your routing table before and after connection is lost?
Nothing should change after period of time.

Do you mean this?

The TRB is displayed with the appropriate IP in the router. If he is no longer available, no more.

no, Status->Routes->Static

Before:

After:

Looks ok, just ARP change.
I would suggest to start from scratch, because I don’t know what have you tried and what could be wrong.

  1. Reset your configuration
  2. Go to Network->LAN->“lan” in basic mode, you will find button “LAN to WAN”
This should change all necessary settings.
    I’m using 7.8.2 firmware.

I enabled the bridge intervace in the wan settings.
Now it seems to be working.

Could that have been the reason?

I don’t think so, but lets try.

Maybe it’s a bug. But since then it’s been working without any problems. That makes me happy.

Many thanks for your support.
