TRB140 (firmware TRB1_R_00.07.21.1) with EC25-AU modem on EC25AUFAR06A12M4G. SMS sending is broken in Australia after the 3G shutdown

Hi, I have recently unboxed my brand new TRB140 and have been unable to send SMS in Australia. Much effort has gone into diagnosis and configuration.

Device: TRB140, firmware TRB1_R_00.07.21.1 Modem: Quectel EC25-AU, firmware EC25AUFAR06A12M4G_01.001.01.001 Carrier: Aldi Mobile (Telstra wholesale), Australia

Problem: Cannot send SMS. Australia shut down 3G in 2024, so SMS must work over IMS/LTE. Receiving SMS works, sending fails with +CMS ERROR. AT+QIMSSTAT? returns ERROR — IMS is not registering.

I’ve since contacted Quectel directly and they confirmed the firmware is outdated. They provided me with EC25AUFAR06A13M4G_01.001.01.001, which includes Telstra MBN updates and IMS fixes.

Questions:

  1. Is there an official TRB140 modem firmware update package for the EC25-AU with IMS support?

  2. If not, can you provide instructions for flashing EC25AUFAR06A13M4G on the TRB140, or repackage it in the format that modem_upgrade expects?

The modem_updater -g shows no available versions on the server for this modem variant. Happy to provide a troubleshoot file if needed.

Thanks, Brad

Greetings,

Could you please check in the Status → Network → Mobile page if VoLTE is active?

You may set it to On by navigating to Network → Mobile → Connection and then try sending an SMS

Best Regards,
Justinas
