in the midst of setting up my new TRB140 - which so far works very well! - i am trying to achieve the following:
Ping a host / IP address a number of times
If host / IP fails to respond, send SMS with error message
Repeat after 5 minutes. (do not send SMS again unless host has been reachable again or so…)
If i am not completely wrong, this appears to be impossible right now, at least i cannot configure something like this. I have set up an event w/ SMS alert when the LAN port goes down, this is working well.
Did i overlook something? Or do i need to file a feature request elsewhere (not on this forum :))?
Cheers
Gregor
It sounds like you are looking for the “ping reboot” functionality. You can access it by navigating to System → Maintenance → Auto Reboot. From there, create a new rule or edit an existing one as described below. This will send an SMS if the ping reboot fails. Note that this will run every 5 minutes if the interface is not up.
thanks for the hint. Checked and it appears to be working. However, it took me a little bit to understand it will not actually reboot the machine if configured as in your example Hope this will get some more attention in the next releases, to make it easier to use…
