In the machines page on tailscale, I see that my RUTM10 is on version 1.70.0-7 (OpenWrt) and my windows laptop has version 1.84. When I try to upgrade in CLI menu typing “tailscale update” I get
fetching latest tailscale version: Get "https://pkgs.tailscale.com/stable/?mode=json&os=linux": dial tcp: lookup pkg s.tailscale.com: i/o timeout
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out.
To clarify, on other devices like the RUTX50, it is possible to update Tailscale via CLI, as you can see in the example output below:
However, it’s important to note that this approach requires a significant amount of free flash storage. Devices like the RUTM10 are not compatible with this method due to limited storage capacity.
Additionally, updating Tailscale directly from the server is generally not recommended on these devices. By default, the Tailscale package included in the firmware is highly compressed to fit the device’s flash storage constraints. When updating from the Tailscale server, the package comes in its full, uncompressed size, which typically exceeds the available storage on most devices, including the RUTM10.
For this reason, it’s advised to use the Tailscale version provided within the firmware builds officially supported for your device.
If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
