Is there a tcpdump package available for the RUT956? Alternatively is there a similar command available which will show traffic passing in/out of a specified interface? Perhaps something available from iptables?

Please… try the Package Manager to download tcpdump.
And yes… there is tcpdump for RUT956

As Marcelo above has advised, you can download the TCPdump package from the package manager. Simply go to WEBUI System → Package manager and in the search bar type TCP, and you will be presented with the package to be downloaded.
iptables can provide real-time packet and byte counters per interface or rule but does not show packet contents.
