Is it possible or is it on the horizon that we can get the status of the tailscale connection via SMS Utilities OR local scripting?

To retrieve the Tailscale connection status, you can use the SMS Utilities API rule. The SMS should be formatted as follows:
<admin password> api get /tailscale/status
