Starlink in bypass mode: WAN intf. settings

Hi all – currently using an RUTX50 with SIM card / mobile internet. After the Iberian peninsula power grid blackout last week (which killed cell service for almost 10 hours), I’ve got a Starlink arriving tomorrow.

Q: I want to know what all of the WAN Interface settings should be (in RutOS) to get internet from the Starlink when Starlink’s router is set to “bypass mode” (i.e: disable Starlink Wifi / DCHP router; pass thru mode)… is there a Teltonika FAQ anywhere listing all the settings?

– General Settings [Protocol?]
– Advanced Settings [Any?]
– Physical Settings [Bridge? Interface?]

Note: I’ll keep the SIM for Failover, Starlink as primary, and I’ve read all the info for that.

Thanks in advance!

p.s: this is all I could find on the Starlink FAQ:

How do I use the Starlink app with my third-party router?

You can utilize the Starlink app to view statistics, access terminal settings and contact support. Configuration may be required for the Starlink app to work with some third-party routers.

After you have set up your third-party router and connected to Starlink with the WAN port, open the Starlink app. If the app says “Starlink unreachable”, create a static route in your router configuration settings.

Please refer to your router’s documentation for instructions on setting a static route.

  • Network destination: 192.168.100.0
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: 192.168.100.1
  • Interface: WAN

Note: These options may differ depending on your specific hardware and network configuration.

Hi @disuye,

No additional configuration should be needed on the Teltonika side. Once the dishy is placed in a bypass mode (assuming you purchased the Starlink Mini), nothing else is generally needed.
You can add a static route to manage the dish remotely, but it’s not necessary, as you can also reach the dish over the internet.
If you’ll be using failover, make sure to disable the WAN6 interface, as when any of the WAN interfaces have an IPv6 address failover functionality will not work properly.
Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Best regards,

Thanks for the confirmation! I’m hoping it’s plug & play (but it never is lol)

I purchased Starlink Standard with (I think?) the Gen 3 router (the router with an ethernet port).
