SMS commands to send in pdu mode

Hi
We have TRB142 07.02.7
is there a way to configure gateway to accept AT commands to send sms in pdu mode without the gsmctl command part?
We have a third party software sending commands via COM interface and that software is using standard AT commands - i think its using commands in form:
at+cmgf=0 and so on…
not gsmctl at+cmgf as TRB needs
Or am i missing something?
