Setting up the fail over

can you assist me with my RUTX50. I have a Wi-Fi 6 router from my ISP that has 1 gigabit wan port where the fibre ethernet cable connects, and 3 lan ports. how do I connect it to the RUTX50 so that should my ISP go down, the RUTX50 takes over using 5g. How do I physically link the routers. I would be very grateful if you could help. Thankyou

Hello,

I doubt that your ISP-provided router has failover functionality, but the RUTX50 does, and it can be configured quite easily. You just need to plug a LAN cable from your ISP router’s LAN port to the RUTX50’s WAN port, then go to Network → Failover and ensure that failover functionality is selected. Adjust the metrics according to your preference and ensure that failover interfaces are enabled.

This should be sufficient if you’re using the Teltonika router as your main one. I can’t provide advice about your ISP’s router since I lack knowledge about what kind of device it is and if it even has the appropriate functionality.

Kind regards,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have my router from my isp which is a linksys SPNMX42 connected to the internet. I have a cat6 cable running from one of the lan ports on the isp router to the Wan port on the RUTX50. I have also removed all sim cards, so as to remove any mobile Internet, but I have no connection to the internet. Even if I plug the internet cable from my ISP, directly into the wan port on the RUTX50, i still have no internet connection. What am I missing here,

Hello,

In this case, you should look into SPNMX42 settings. However, knowing the router model, I can see that the router gets its internet connection via a standard LAN cable and not fiber, as I thought before. In this scenario, you can use RUTX50 as the main router instead of SPNMX42 or as a failover router to which SPNMX42 is connected.

Kind regards,

That would be the ideal solution for me, to use the RUTX50 as the fail over router, connected to my isp router as the main router. But at this point in time, zi cant even get the RUTX50 to connect to the internet with the isp cable pugged into the Wan port of the RUTX50. On the wan interface page, its shoes the Status as being up, but I still cant access the internet. Google does not load.

Are you able to get internet access using the SPNMX42 plugged directly into ISP cable?

Yes that works fine

Hello,

If your RUTX50 is without any configuration, it should be working as well. Especially if the status is “Up”. You should probably contact your ISP to get some answers this way, as they might be using some kind of prevention of using “outside” equipment.

Additionally, you can try resetting your router and then trying to connect it again to rule out any previously existing configuration.

Kind regards,

I have now reset the RUTX50 to factory defaults, connected my usp cable to the wan port of yhe RUTX50, ran through the setup wizard, and still no internet. On the Status/Overview page, the Wan section is all blank. I have spoken to my isp, and they have said there is nothing in place from there side that would restrict any sort of usage of third party routers. Could this router be faulty, I dont know, but I need to get this resolved please.

Hello,

There might be an issue with the router, of course. Please check the cable; try using another one. Do the LEDs on the WAN port light up when the LAN cable is connected to another router? Additionally, you could try upgrading the router to the newest firmware.

Kind regards,

It was updated yesterday, i have 2 cables all brand new. When its connected to my isp, the wan lights up, but no internet just lan.

Hi,

What WAN address does RUTX50 get then connected to WAN via ethernet cable? To know it you can go to Network → WAN:
