Setting RUT241 WAN static IP

I need to access my RUT241 from home, while it is setup in the field, so I asked to get a static IP address from my cellular network provider.

I got the static IP address, and they told me I had to manually set that IP in the router. If I go to Network→WAN and set the protocol to “static” instead of mobile, I can enter the static IP but nothing works anymore. I read in another thread that I might have to setup some “route”, or “port forward” or maybe something else. Btw, I have setup some DNS, and I am not sure about the gateway and broadcast IP values.

And I also get “Status : No device assigned” when I do the above.

So, how can I fix the WAN IP address?

One simle question, does doing a “ping” to that address give me a responce from the RUT241, or I need to do something to enable the “ping” responce?

Hello,

The “static” IP you’re referring to is simply an IP that doesn’t change after a reboot, those IP addresses are called “Dynamic” (therefore, they change). When it comes to settings on our routers, you don’t need to do any, as the IP is automatically leased out by the provider of the SIM card and should be reflected on your mob1s1a1 interface. If it is not reflecting properly, and you’re seeing some other IP address, please ensure that the APN you’ve set on the mobile interface is correct. Usually, it is provided by the provider themselves and can be easily set by clicking “edit” on the interface, and disabling “Auto-APN”. More information can be found here: RUT241 Mobile - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Changing your mobile interface protocol is bound to cause issues, unless you’re changing it to “Bridge” or “Passthrough”, however, those options are use-case dependent, so usually, you won’t even need them. You may change the protocol back to “NAT” as that’s the default.

Regarding routing and port forwarding, we have information available on our Wiki as well. You can find it here:

Regarding this, I’d need more clarification and information on what do you mean exactly, perhaps some screenshots would help.

Would also like some more clarification - pings generally work in a way that you’re sending packets to, for example, the Google DNS, which is 8.8.8.8 - if you receive a response back, that means you have a working internet connection and you should be able to surf the internet, otherwise, if no response is received, of course, you do not have internet, and surfing isn’t possible either.

why not RMS ???

Or connect the Teltonika to a (home) vpn server, and connect your client (PC) at home to the same VPN so you can just 192.168.1.1 into the router, that’s how I do it.

I agree with Matas, the IP comes from the provider, but it showed 10.xx.xx.xx which is invalid. After three calls to my service provided I finally got someone from Tech Support that told me that I had to manually enter a special APN name that is used for devices with static IP address. So now the router shows the proper IP address!

My first call to Tech Support should have told me this, and I would not have created this thread!

Claude

Glad you were able to resolve it, Claude!
