I recently updated 5 x RUTXR1 routers to firmware RUTX_R_00.07.05.4 and after approx 30 days all of them have become inaccessible via SSH, Web, RMS and SMS.
They all respond on the LAN, WAN and mobile interfaces but any connection attempts basically get out of resource type errors and syslog is being sent as “vfork: Resource temporarily unavailable”.
I’ve managed to recover 3 of the 5 as I had a serial console connection to 3 of them, I was able to login but not execute any commands such as ps, top, reboot, etc but I was able to reboot them by running echo b >/proc/sysrq-trigger
Once I recovered them I updated to RUTX_R_00.07.06 but after a while I noticed there where a number of [sh] zombie processes ramping up at about 6 an hour.
The cause of the zombies is ntpclient but I’m not sure why, my question is has anyone else seen this?
I’ve mitigated running out of PID’s by having a cron job restart the ntpclient every day which clears the zombie processes.
I’ve never had an issue before RUTX_R_00.07.05.4 on any of the routers and ran for much longer than 30 days.
Hello,
Thank you for bringing this issue up to us. I just wanted to let you know that we were aware of this issue and we already implemented a fix on it through firmware RUTX_R_00.07.06.1.
Kindly update your devices to this FW version. - RUTXR1 Firmware Downloads - Teltonika Networks Wiki
