RUTX50 RDP Port Forward

Hi, I am having trouble setting up RDP access to a PC on my network.

I have an EE sim in slot 1 providing internet access
Static IP in the LAN for the PC with the Port 3389 open and RDP setup
Port forward rule in Firewall setup see image
Traffic rule setup see image

With all this setup I cannot access the PC via RDP, it works internally on the network but not externally. Port Checker also shows the port is closed.

I am missing something?

Thanks.

I think I have figured it out, it seems I have the a different IP on the external mobile interface when checking using what’s my IP. When using the SIM IP shown in mobile page it works.

Why are websites reporting a different IP to the mobile interface?

I have setup dynamic IP and this is reporting the correct mobile modem IP.

I do not think it is working, as using the IP on the modem appears to be an internal IP which will not allow me to connect from outside the network. I tested on a different connection and it failed to connect. The Dyn DNS is receiving this internal IP 192...* but I think the external IP is 31...*

Hi,

  1. Your SIM card is providing private IP. IP is NAT’ed by mobile provider thus router cannot be reached using this IP. You need special SIM card (mobile plan) to provide public IP so router could be reached using that IP.
  2. You are looking for port forward rule not a traffic rule.

I think that it can also be solved with reverse tunnel (that could also be done from PC) but I never tried them.

Thanks, that will explain it.
