I’m using a Teltonika RUTX50 router with a Telekom Deutschland SIM card. I’m trying to get IPv6 working, but the router only connects with an IPv4 address — no IPv6 is assigned. I had it working for many months before but it stopped working a few months ago. I did not change anything.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
APN:internet.v6.telekom
Authentication: PAP (also tried CHAP and None)
PDP Type: Tried both IPv6 and IPv4/IPv6
SIM card is active and inserted properly
Firmware: Latest available version installed
Tried factory reset and reconfiguration from scratch
In the Mobile Status page, I only see an IPv4 address. No IPv6 is shown.
The SIM card works fine in a smartphone and gets an IPv6 address there, so it doesn’t seem to be a problem with the mobile plan.
Does anyone have experience getting Telekom IPv6 working on the RUTX50? Any CLI configs or logs I should check? Any known issues with this APN?
For “internet.v6.telekom”, try setting the PDP-Type to “IPv4v6” (not just “IPv6”). The Telekom network expects “IPv4v6” requests and will then respond with IPv6-only.
The standard APN “internet.telekom” is generally preferred for dual-stack (IPv4 + IPv6) connectivity, as it should assign both addresses if the device and network support it
If using “internet.telekom”, select “IPv4v6” as well, as this is the recommended protocol for dual-stack operation.
Ensure your RUTX50 is on the very latest firmware. Recent updates may address compatibility issues with IPv6 assignment.
In the router’s LAN settings, ensure “Delegate IPv6 prefixes” is enabled. This allows the router to assign IPv6 addresses to LAN clients once an IPv6 prefix is received from Telekom.
Set the “IPv6 assignment length” to 64 or 60, as appropriate for your network.
Test the sim card in another LTE router (Not smartphone) To rule out device specific issues.
Remember to reboot the device after making changes, for them to come into effect.
