RUTX50 Failover behaviour?

Just trying to second guess what’s going on:

If WAN fails, internet service switches to MOB… all good.

But does the Failover service resume WAN connection as soon as WAN becomes available again? Or does it stick with MOB indefinitely? Thanks!

Hello,

Yes, the Failover service can automatically resume the wired WAN connection as soon as it becomes available again. To make sure it works smoothly, there’s an important option to check:

Under Network → Failover interface settings, you’ll find the Flush connections option:

When enabled, this forces existing connections to reset when switching back to the primary WAN, ensuring the device actively moves traffic over the preferred connection once it’s back online.

Feel free to reach out if any other questions come up.

Best regards,

OK great thanks.

Do I need to set the Flush option on both the WAN (primary connection) and the MOB (failover / backup connection)? Or just add Flush settings only to the MOB (failover / backup)?

Thanks again!

The Flush Connections on option can be enabled for both your primary WAN and mobile (failover/backup) interfaces. That said, I’ve personally tested this scenario on firmware 7.14.2, leaving the flush options disabled, and the device still successfully prioritized switching back to the wired WAN when it became available again.

Nevertheless, for consistency and to avoid any potential stale session issues during failover recovery, it’s recommended to keep the Flush Connections option enabled on both interfaces.

Best regards,
