RUTX50 does not see RUTX10 when mesh setup

Hi,

I have a RUTX50 connected to 4/5G running 2.4 and 5 ghz networks and mesh is running on 5 ghz. I have configured both devices as your guide and I can see the client connected to the mesh. However the RUTX10 does not appear in the client list on the RUTX50. The RUTX10 also disconnects frequently and also does not pick up the firmware updates - dhcp is switched off on the RUTX10 and IP is assigned as static (the other option is none)

Something is not working correctly but I cannot work it out and I have followed the guide, what should I try next? Can I share logs for each device to be checked?

This is frustrating as I am getting many complaints about losing network connections to the internet. Also note I cannot get a terminal login for either device in the WebUI either.

Hoping I can definitely resolve these issues as they have never really fully worked.

Thanks, James

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

Firstly, could you please clarify:

  1. Do you not see the RUTX10 node listed under the Clients section in the mesh interface status on the gateway (RUTX50)?

  2. Also, may I ask where the RUTX10 is physically located? Is it positioned further away from the RUTX50 gateway? Could you confirm whether there aren’t many obstacles, thick walls or metal objects, or interference from neighboring wireless networks where the mesh setup is deployed?

  3. Have you tried performing a 5 GHz channel scan via Status → Wireless → Channel Analysis to check for congested channels in your area? If there’s a lot of interference, selecting a less crowded channel could improve stability. Alternatively, in environments with many obstacles, switching to a 2.4 GHz mesh setup should deliver more reliable results.

Best regards,

Hi,

Here is what I have found:

  1. RUTX10 is listed in clients but with no hostname or ip

  2. RUTX10 is located 3 meters below RUTX50 within 1 meter of stairs - see signal strength screen shot.

  3. Wifi scan on RUTX50 shows the two devices on channel 36 and there is hidden SSID on 44 but much lower signal strength at -92. We are rural with no close neighbours.

Kind regards,

James

@Martynas do you have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks, James

Hello @jamesh,

The RUTX10 node’s IP address should be visible under the RUTX50’s topology map via Status → Network → Topology → Scan LAN results, provided the RUTX10 is configured correctly, meaning DHCP is disabled and it has a static LAN IP address within the same subnet as the gateway.

To clarify why you don’t see a hostname or IP for the RUTX10 under the Status → Wireless page on the RUTX50: this is expected behavior. In a wireless mesh setup, a new virtual wireless interface is created for the mesh link, and the MAC address you’ll see associated with this connection on the gateway side will differ from the RUTX10’s standard wireless MAC address. That’s why it doesn’t appear listed as a typical wireless client in that section.

In brief, if you need to confirm mesh node visibility from the gateway:

  • Check the topology map (Status → Network → Topology, Scan LAN)
  • Or review the ARP table via CLI: arp -a

Hope this clarifies it. If you need further assistance or have questions, feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

@Martynas ok, thanks, it appears as expected then. I am still getting intermittent connectivity issues.

I have noted the firmare update appears on the RUTX50 but not the RUTX10 and then when I use the Android Teltonika app it finds both but clicking the check firmware for the RUTX10 I get the message no Internet… there is Internet on the RUTX50. I must have some issue going on - where should I look, what should I check? RUTX50 mesh shows 1 client which must be the RUTX10.
Thanks, James

Hello James,

If you’d like your mesh node to have internet access, you’ll need to add a static route on the RUTX10. For this, on the mesh node WebUI:

  1. Navigate to Network → Routing → Static Routes;
  2. Add a new static route with the following parameters (change the gateway address according to your setup):
  3. Press Save & Apply.

After making this change, it should route all internet-bound traffic from the RUTX10 through the RUTX50, enabling the RUTX10 to access the internet.

Let me know if you need help or further assistance with anything else.

Best regards,

@Martynas thanks, I have this route setup already. Any reasons it would not be working? Thanks for your help

Hello @jamesh,

Just to confirm, have you followed the mesh setup guidelines provided in the wiki example (available here) attentively, and the 5 GHz channel for both the gateway and the node is the identical one? Also, make sure that all the WiFi antennas are attached to devices properly.

Hi @Martynas, I can confirm I followed the example provided and 5GHz channels are both 36 and 2.4GHz is set to 11. All WiFi antennas are connected correctly.
