My LAN works normally before I changed from RUTX12 to RUTX50. I have several RUTX10 WiFi routers as accesspoints + 2 TWS Switches.
Configuration is very basic with bridged RUT10’s. Now for a couple of weeks the DNS does not seem to work and I didn’t quite undertood the article from CrazyFin about ‘RUTX50 - Can not ping local devices by hostname. I too have a multiple devices - including RUTX10’s with static ip’s.
CrazyFin was reffering a ’ page Hostnames on local devices on lan’ which was not there anymore to me to read…
What to do?
…cont.
I added all host names and ip’s in all 4 Rut devices. And all devices can now ping each other, but DNS or gateway does not work, becaus - as example RUT ‘Internet status’ says IPv4 status off line - in Routers UI
Small correction: RUTX50 IS getting internetconnection - and a good one. All other devices as well, but DNS does not seem to work as it supposed to and device names are not shared with devices who are assigned with a static ip addresses by RUTX50 DHCP service.
And RUTX50 is working and all other devices as well, but RUTX10 wifi routers can not ‘see internet’ there fore no online updates, no RMS connectivity and no package manager. Here’s RUTX50 Internet status which is ok:
Here one of the RUTX10 internet statuses:
"Sounds like you’re on the right track by adding hostnames manually, but the IPv4 offline status could point to a DHCP or gateway config issue. Maybe double-check the RUTX50’s DNS settings and ensure it’s set to forward correctly to upstream servers. Also, verify if the RUTX50 is assigning DNS correctly to the RUTX10s. Hope you get it sorted!
Tryout… Since there is potentially DNS configuration issue, I’m experimenting by switching off a Rebind protection. Based on documentation what says: ‘Discards upstream RFC1918 responses. When enabled, the device will not resolve domain names for internal hosts.’
I do not really understand what it means, but it seems worth trying… Even when documentation says, it is defaulted to be ON.
Results: No change!
Still missing UI’s :
Internet status, RMS connection, Package manager items, automatic firmware update/check …
