RUTX50: captive portal not working

Hi there,

  • Firmware version

RUTX_R_00.07.13.3

  • Firmware build date

2025-03-20 15:45:06

  • Internal modem firmware version

RG501QEUAAR12A11M4G_04.201.04.201

  • Kernel version

5.10.233

DNS rebind = off
captive portal redirect in interface is enabled

I had 4 different wifi’s protected with captive portal to test with. One is a welcome page of my Fritz 7590 router’s guestnet, which I can use at home for test purposes.
Connecting to this guestnet with my Iphone or a Android phone brings up the captive portal landing page every time I try. In none of the cases I had any success with the RUTX50. Travelmate, if I’m right, doesn’t need to be installed as it became integrated as part of the OS, right?
Any idea how to make the captive portal featurework work? Unprotected wifi’s are becoming verye rare, most are protected with captive portals.
Many thanks in advance

The most common reason we see here for Multi AP not connecting is that owners do not realise that if your Multi AP SSID is operating on a certain band (lets say 2.4GHz in this example), then all other 2.4Ghz SSID’s on the RUTX, must be disabled.

This means that end user WiFi devices, in this example, have to connect to the RUTX on the 5GHz band.

If this is not the solution, then we can explore further.

You are correct in saying ‘Travelmate doesn’t need to be installed’.

Hello @tgv_boost,

Could you please confirm if the solution provided by Mike has resolved your issue, or if you still require any further assistance?

Best regards,

seems to be a macOS/iOS problem.
With Safari on both a Mac or iPhone I didn’t get the captive portal.

Firefox asks if it should load the landing page.

Or just open http://1.1.1.1 in safari. This will also bring up the landing page
