RUTX12 SIM error

I have a RUTX12 which keeps reporting an inability to read one of its SIMs.
The problem first occurred with the secondary modem:

I thought maybe a faulty SIM and so I replaced this with a new SIM from a different network operator.

This indeed resolved the issue with the secondary modem - no more reports of not inserted. But then the same problem immeditely started to appear with the primary modem where I had made no change to the SIM:

So why would I have persistent SIM issues with secondary modem and none with primary, then once I change SIM in secondary I have persistent SIM issues with primary modem and none with secondary?
