I am writing to ask a general question regarding the hardware traceability of the RUTX12 router.
On a device I am analyzing, I noticed a clear discrepancy between the internal motherboard serial number and the physical case serial number. To give you an idea of the hardware generations involved:
Since the internal SN and the external SN do not match, I would like to know from a procedural standpoint:
Does Teltonika ever release units from the factory with different internal and external serial numbers?
Is this specific scenario (mismatching serials but active hardware) a standard outcome of an official Teltonika RMA / motherboard replacement process?
I prefer not to share the full serial numbers or MAC addresses publicly for security reasons, but I would highly appreciate it if you could confirm if an RMA repair is the standard explanation for this type of mismatch.
I’m sure that teltonika will give a deffinitive answer to this.
Is it possible that an end product assembled with parts from different third party manufacturers ends up with different serial numbers given to each part. Mmmm does that make any sense, probably not!
The modem manufacturer will no doubt have their own s/n system for there own benefit and so will the motherboard manufacturer / assembler. On a motherboard there are potentially hundreds of diffeent components each having a different s/n system given to them by there respective manufacturers.
The s/n of the final assembled component whatever it may be is allocated by the end product retailer. Nothing is manufactured / assembled by just one company.
A Car! internally the alternator between 2003 and 05 could be a Bosch, between 05 and 10 it could be a Denso. but the car make and model remains the same throughout. The s/n system for the alternators will change. The s/n system for the cars will remain unchanged.
I partially agree with you but let me first clarify a point: when I mentioned “External Case SN” I meant that on the case there is a sticker with
SN & Batch no.
IMEI 1 & 2
LAN MAC
SSID 2.4GHz & 5GHz and
WiFi password.
I noticed that:
the SN is different with the one shown via web-api
the SSIDs and password are different from those given via web-api after an hardware reset.
I suppose that the information provided on the sticker should refers to only a specific component and that’s why I am “complaining” with the results displayed via web-api.
But even a car has a key to make it starts and is unique. If its id-number is different from the one reported on the contract should you be worried or not?
Now that i better understand, where did you buy it? Was it bought as new unused, 2nd hand, refurbished or repaired with or without warranty etc? When i read your first post i thought that you had opened the case exposing the internel motherboard and read a s/n on the actual board.
Surely if it was bought from a reputable reseller, the seller should / would sell it as a refurb, repair with no or limited liability and warranty.
I’d go back to the seller asap and contact my card company and start a process of returning it and or getting a full refund either from the seller, the platform where it was sold or my card company.
Unless of course you bought with your eyes wide open knowing it was cheap and on a dodgy platform such as farcebook, ebay or amazon!! keep it knowing it was cheap in the hope that it last a good few years.
Just had look at my RUTX50, everything matches exactly except the S/N which is adrift by exactly 1000!! I bought as new unused from broadbandbuyer.
I bought it second hand “as new” from a local/minor national platform. The router will be part of a wider project with several (original & new) Teltonika APs so I needed to do some saving!
So I have neither the possibility to go back to the seller nor get reliable information about the product if not asking directly to the Teltonika community.
Thanks for your feedback with your RUTX50! So close SN but same batch no?
In my case the SN mismatch is not a clean number as 1000… and the suspicious discrepancy between the default value of the SSIDs and password from those of the web-api is still alive.
At this point would interesting to know
how to decode the SN and other similar hardware related identifiers to make comparison… at least to understand if the product is original, RMA repair, or Frankestein version,
how to correlate the information of the sticker on the case with those from the web-api.
We need to gather more information regarding the discrepancy between the serial numbers of your RUTX12, so we would like to continue our communication with you privately.
We have sent you a form to complete, which you should receive in the email inbox associated with your forum account.
When filling out the form, please enter the ID of this thread 20943 in the Ticket ID field.
Once you have submitted the form, please let me know, and we will contact you privately to collect the relevant device details and investigate further.
