I have a RUTX11 with two SIMs (EE and O2 networks). There is no WAN broadband connection, as I live in a rural area. I’d like the router to use one SIM (say EE) and if the network fails, switch to the other SIM (O2). If O2 then fails, switch back to EE.
I have failover and sim switch configured. This seems to work from one (EE) to two (O2), but never back again. When the 2nd sim fails, the router logs ‘WAN (mob1s2a1) is down, no more backups to switch’.
- Q1: Could you explain how features ‘sim switch’ and ‘failover’ should work together?
- Q2: Is my expectation reasonable for a round robin failover sequence 1->2->1->2 … , can this be achieved?
Answering my own question, based on other topics in this forum, I’m going to try this:
Set the 2nd sim to “Switch to next SIM after delay” and set an Initial delay of 120 mins. This allows 2 hours for the first network to recover. My expectation is that Sim 2 will continue if sim 1 is not available.
This leaves an outstanding question, the delay is configured as an ‘initial delay’. Does this then repeat, ie: every 120 mins in my configuration?
hi PASimmons,
I have a similar problem but my confusion is more fundamental I believe. I also have 2 SIM but my problem is that do not see how to edit the rules/conditions how I want it. Have you managed it in the meantime? where do you set up the SIM Switch rules?
Here is a screenshot. Idk how I can edit these SIM switch rules. can you guide me ?
For each SIM in the list there is an action; this depends on the access rights of the current user.
Is it possible that your current logged-in user has only view and not edit access?
Certainly I’ve checked mine for admin and for a readonly user. Admin has an action of edit. This allows you to define sim switch rules. The readonly user allows only view, which I’m guessing is the view in your screenshot.
