I’m a bit of an outlier where I use the RUTX11 for the BLE capabilities for IoT, specifically smart building and sensors. I also use LoRaWAN sensors and figured it would make sense to turn the RUTX11 into a LoRaWAN packet forwarder and guess what, it worked
This means that one RUTX11 and a $99USD adapter and you have the whole Smart Building stack on a single system. When evaluating what router I wanted for wider deployment and then what LoRa gateway, the cost was high to do a lot of the same thing twice when all i wanted to do was add 8ch of LoRa. The RAK add-on made sense. I was only able to make this work because of Claude, I am NOT a programmer but the end result is a single solution where you get Teltonika RMS AND LoRaWAN and thats (chef’s kiss) perfect.
My first go at this does work but it needs some contibutors
this is phenomenal!
Any reliability issues?
And can you share the CPU / RAM / Flash utilization stats from your RUTX11? any other custom code running on it (e.g for Bluetooth uses)?
I’m similarly using RUTX11 as a gateway, with WiFi + BLE as connections + sensors (scanning), and Tailscale. RAM is consistently 80+% utilized so I’ve been nervous about adding more load, but LoRaWAN has been brought up - would love to learn more about your experience.
I’m really happy with the results. Zero downtime. No errors in the logs. CPU is very low. RAM is 85%.
Tailscale is fantastic. I use it extensively. I dont have prior CPU / RAM stats but IMHO, these need 4x RAM. Ill deploy it to a customer site with more utilization. The thing is, it’s kind of just working like it should.
