we are currently using the RUTX11 in an agricultural context and is therefore exposed to a harsh environment. It is build into a watertight box but we are concerned about vibrations and electrical faults during development and testing. Therefor i have two questions:
Is there are more rugged version of thr RUTX11 or a comparable mobile router? I found the case study about the RUT955 (RUT955 in heavy duty machinery - Teltonika Networks Wiki) which unfortunately it is EOL. For the suggested alternatives RUT906 and RUT956 i cannot find similar case studies. Are the models similar enough, so the same behavior in harsh environments could be expected?
Are there any models with a buildin fuse to make it more robust? We burned a couple of Routers since we made some mistakes in some test of other electrical equipment and we assume, that the connection between antenna and the housing caused unwanted current flowing through the router. A fuse might have protected against that. Or is the only option to use an external fuse?
While there isn’t a specific “rugged” version of the RUTX11, it is well-suited for the use case you mentioned. The RUT906/RUT956 can also be deployed as a direct replacement or alternative to the RUT955. However, the RUT906/956 is not more “rugged” than the RUTX11; both devices offer similar environmental resistance.
Another option is our outdoor router, the OTD140, which is IP55-rated for outdoor durability. However, it lacks certain features found in the RUT906/RUT956. Could you clarify what you mean by “rugged”? Are you referring to a specific IP rating, temperature range, certification, or vibration resistance?
Regarding the second part of your query, all Teltonika Networks products come with a built-in fuse, as well as additional security mechanisms such as reverse polarity protection and voltage surge/transient protection.
Thank you very much for your help!
We are looking for rugged in a sense of industrial temperature range and vibration resistance (however there are no specific requirements yet, which we could put in numbers). Regarding IP Rating, a Rating >=IP65 is preferred, but since that is easily achieved by an extra housing is only optional requirement.
So your message stating, that the RUTX11 should be as rugged as the RUT955 with its case study in a harsh environment is currently sufficient for us.
Regarding the fuse: Is it a resettable fuse like a PPTC or a melting fuse? I cannot find anything about it in the documentation/manual.
