RUTX11 client mode - wifi antenna

I have searched the community and found several posts asking the same or similar question but not found any clear answer. Hoping someone can clarify this…

Are the wifi antenna connections on a RUTX11 used for both transmitting the LAN wireless network and also connecting to another wifi network in client mode? Is there also an internal wifi antenna for transmitting the LAN wireless network?

I have a RUTX11 which I use for both 4G and connecting to other public wifi networks in client mode. I have a Poynting MIMO 4G+wifi antenna and it all works OK but connectivity to other wifi networks isn’t always that great. I have used a directional wifi antenna in the past with a different system (not a 4g router) in the same locations and the wifi connectivity was much better.

I guess my question is whether I am better off using a separate directional antenna for the wifi but if so how will that impact devices connecting to the LAN of the RUTX11? The devices will never be that far from the router so I don’t need to broadcast the LAN wireless very far.

Hope that makes sense!

Please note that none of the products within Teltonika Networks utilize internal antennas for Wi-Fi transmission. The RUTX11 employs the 802.11ac Dual Band Wi-Fi standard. This standard introduced the use of multiple STAs (Stations), each equipped with one or more antennas, to transmit or receive independent data streams simultaneously.

Could you kindly provide the specifications for the Poynting antenna? This information will help us better understand your local setup. Please be aware that using a directional antenna could adversely affect your local devices if the antenna is oriented in the opposite direction.

Best regards.

It’s a Poynting MIMO-3-15 V2 antenna. It’s omnidirectional and just wondering if that is the reason why it’s not ideal for connecting to other wifi networks in client mode.

Thanks
Mark.
