We have several RUTX11 routers which were running firmware version 07.05.4 and were to be upgraded using the unit bootloader menu to 7.03.3 (a process which we had validated on older RUTX11s). However, after attempting this procedure the update cycle did not succeed. In most units the screen would hang and continue to show that the unit was updating but would never begin functioning, while during at least one attempt the following error was thrown:
“UPDATE FAILED: Something went wrong during update. Probably you have chosen wrong file (too big or too small) or you were trying to update ART on device with unknown FLASH type (and size) which is not allowed.Please, try again or contact with the author of this modification. You can also get more information during update in U-Boot console.”
I should note that the file we are using is not modified in any way and was downloaded directly from the Teltonika site. After this procedure was attempted, technicians were never again able to visit the regular web interface (but technicians were able to visit the bootloader again as needed). Attempting to update a RUTX11 that has experienced this problem back to 7.05.4 via the bootloader menu also did not succeed.
Looking through the changelogs for the RUTX11 firmware we do note that problems have been encountered in certain bootloader versions which sound like what we are encountering. Obviously because we can no longer visit the web interface for these “bricked” routers we do not know the bootloader version present, however we do see that there is an option to upgrade the bootloader using 192.168.1.1/uboot.html (though the bootloader image files appear not to be published).
Can you provide the latest bootloader image file so that we can attempt to repair these devices? Is the above issue due to issues with the bootloader version of the device? If so, what versions of the bootloader should be avoided?
