RUTX10 : kern.err kernel (I/O error)

Hello,

My device (RUTX10 latest stable 7.19.4) sometimes has trouble starting up. In the log I can see some errors :

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Please clarify what you mean when you say “Sometimes has trouble starting up” - what happens exactly?

The errors seem to be flash-memory related. Specifically, the router is having trouble reading the root filesystem (rootfs) from flash.

Could you tell me whether changing settings, for example, the name of your Wi-Fi SSID and then rebooting the router saves the changes? If it doesn’t - your flash memory is corrupted and you may need to either:

  1. Try to bootloader reset your device: Bootloader menu - Teltonika Networks Wiki
  2. If option number 1 doesn’t work → Contact your reseller/supplier/distributor with the serial number of your device and ask them for an RMA, as this is hardware-related.

M.

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback.

I did the reset of the device through bootloader. I could made modifications after the fresh install. I could still notice the errors in the log.

But, once I shutdown the device and power it up again, it will not start (WiFi Led off, no ethernet activity) for many minutes (I stopped at 5 minutes). After 3 retrial, it started after 75 seconds and worked normally.

I also tested with another PSU with same results.

We have tens of those devices, but it’s the first that has some failures.

RMA ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Great troubleshooting steps from your end, I gotta say, very well done.

Just one more clarification: is the device overheating? I’m curious to know.

Regarding the “final” verdict - I’d say indeed it is an RMA case and that you should get in touch with your distributor/reseller.

M.

Hello,

The device is not overheating (currently in a test lab outside of a cabinet). It was earlier used in a cabinet, but I don’t suppose it reached 75°C …

Our distributor told us that device is not under warranty anymore….

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Thank you for informing us & clarifying in regards to the overheating.

Unfortunately, but if the warranty isn’t valid anymore for this device in particular, then there is nothing that us, or the distributor can do, as we provide 2 years of warranty. After this period, if a case such as this happens, we do recommend looking into replacing the device with a new one.

M.

Thanks for your reply.

If you don’t mention it, I suppose that a repair is not possible or too expansive ??

Is it something that we could do with some electronics knowledge ?

Thanks.

Hello,

We, ourselves, do not take money for repairs, unless the warranty isn’t valid anymore - we no longer take the devices in, unless it is for utilization.

While we don’t recommend doing so, if you know what you’re doing then you are free to try of course, though we will not be providing any details on the process.

M.
