RUTM52 Sim Switch

We have a Teltonika RUTM52 device with both EE and O2 SIM cards installed. We need EE to be the primary SIM card, and when the EE signal drops and the O2 signal becomes stronger, we want it to switch to the O2 SIM card (SIM 2). Additionally, we want the device to switch SIMs in cases of network denial, no network, and data connection failure.

We have configured these settings in SIM switch, but when we try to enable the SIM switch, we encounter an error: β€œat least 2 SIM switch instances must be enabled.” How can we enable the SIM switch, and how can we determine which SIM is being used at any given time, as both SIMs are currently set to default?

Hi,

RUTM52 is dual modem device, it means you can use two SIMs at same time, so in your case SIM1 is modem 1 and SIM2 is modem 2. SIM switch is available only for same modem SIMs. So for modem 1 it have SIM1 and eSIM, so SIM switch will be performed only between SIM1 and eSIM.

If you want to use both standard SIMs when you can setup Failover (it will switch internet connection between modems) or use eSIM as 2nd SIM for modem 1 (will need setup SIM switch). Or if possible buy device which have one modem with two SIMs.

Hello,

In your case, where you have two physical SIM cards installed and want the device to automatically switch between them based on data connection failure, as Mr. Lemondude mentioned, you should use the Failover feature, rather than the SIM switch feature.

More detailed guidance on configuring and using the Failover feature can be found here:

If you need assistance configuring the failover interface switching, feel free to reach out.

Best regards,
