i recently ordered 4x RUTM51 and 2x RUTM10 to build a L2 Bridged System with Zerotier as base protocol.
Problem right now is the extremly unreliable Zerotier Connection with the RUTM51.
When using Mobile, a connection between the nodes is spotty at best and most of the time not working at all. When using WAN as the exclusive Internet Access then its mostly working, with some drops, but is still taking up to 10min to get the tunnels up. It looks like the Zerotier connection itself is beeing established but no traffic is passed.
Interesting enough on the RUTM10 everything is working as expected and a Zerotier tunnel takes about 20s to form after a disconnect due to WAN down or reboot.
For testing Purposes i even dug out a old RUT950 and configured it the same as the M51s with WAN Failover to Mobile etc. Everything is working as expected and Failover is a breeze. Connections take between 10-20s as expected and is then passing traffic reliably.
Firmware on the RUTM51 and M10 is the latest RUTM_R_00.07.13.4
Are there known problems with this and can a fix be expected ?
Is someone else also experiencing this ?
Could you kindly confirm whether the issue you described is still present when using the latest 7.13.6 firmware on your RUTM51? This release included a critical fix addressing modem rebooting behavior, which could potentially be related to the unreliable ZeroTier connections you’re experiencing.
Let me know whether the issue still persists or not, so we can investigate it more thoroughly.
thanks for the Update.
Just deployed it to a test device. It seems the issue is still the same. After a complete new configuration the tunnel goes UP and is working. However after a reboot or disconnect the zerotier connection itself seems to be up but doesnt pass traffic. After ~10min ocassionly traffic is passed but when trying to ping from another device there is packetloss up to 90% and more.
In this case, to troubleshoot and investigate the issue with the unreliable ZeroTier tunnel traffic more effectively, we’ll need to continue this privately. I’ve reported the same, long time ago but issue was never resolved. Me too had a RUT950 which worked great with ZeroTier. Because I wanted 5G and gps functionality I bought a RUTX50. Although gps is good, speed hasn’t increased and ZeroTier only sometimes works. Sometimes can use it all day, other time cannot connect for weeks.
