Hi my Rutm51 will not connect to the Telstra network in 5g SA. It connects fine in 5g NSA as it has no problem carrier aggregating with LTE. N5 or n28 or n78 will aggregate with LTE although it won’t connect to 5g SA n5. I have tried to just manually pick n5 though it will not connect even though it can see the n5 and reports a rssi -65 it will not connect although my s24 ultra will connect to n5 SA in the same location. The router is vehicle mounted. I have replaced the sim recently to a 5g sim+ and it will only connect in 5g NSA only. Any help on the subject would be appreciated.
Hello,
Could you please confirm whether your Telstra operator is actually transmitting 5G signals in SA network architecture in your area? How did you determine that your phone connects to 5G SA?
If SA is indeed supported, could you also check whether it is explicitly selected under Network → Mobile → Connection settings tab?
Best regards,
Thankyou for the reply.
My understanding of the n5 850mhz band is that it can be connected to by carrier aggregating n5 with b28 4g lte in a DSS configuration and also be used in a standalone situation as well. Using monitoring software on my s24 ultra my phone connected b28 and n5. There were times when only the n5 was available and my phone monitor software reported n5 850mhz SA. Basically the Rutm51 won’t connect to telstra n5 850mhz 5g at all either nsa or sa. When the n5 was the only band available it would camp on the band and say Emergency use only with no data connection. It will however carrier aggregate n78 with other 4g lte bands but also won’t connect to n78 standalone although this is not important to me only band n5 is important.
Regards the 5g Sa switch on the diagram you posted my gui does not have that as an option.
Hello,
Thank you for the update.
Please note that the modem technology in your S24 Ultra is considerably a lot more advanced, so its connectivity behavior, capabilities, and sensitivity to specific 5G bands shouldn’t be directly compared with those of the RUTM51.
Could you please confirm which firmware version is currently running on this device? Make sure it’s updated to the latest stable or newest available release.
It also seems you’re accessing the WebUI from a mobile device, could you try switching to desktop site mode or connecting to the WebUI from a computer or another non-mobile device to verify if the 5G SA option appears there?
Additionally, could you share the internal modem firmware version (found under the System → Firmware page) currently installed on your device?
Best regards,
Thanks for the reply.
I have tried latest and latest stable firmware.
I understand the s24 has far more advanced modem I was using the reference to indeed check for a usable telstra n5 band.
At the time I tested the Rutm51 on band n5 I had a very good -73 rssi and it was the only band that was available at the time. The Rutm51 could see the band no issue it just would not connect. It displayed a message similar to. CAMPED ON BAND EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY. It would not connect.
The next day I spoke to Telstra representative to confirm my sim was correctly configured. He asked what device I was using when I told him he said it was an unsupported device and could not discuss it any further.
After contacting Telstra again and told them of my issue I this time mentioned my device i was having a problem with was a Nighthawk M6 and not my Rutm51. At this point they were happy to faultfind my issue. After an hour or so of telstra playing with my sim provisioning I can say my Rutm51 will now connect to n78 and n5 Standalone.
Hello,
Thank you for the update. I’m glad to hear that the 5G SA connectivity issue appears to be resolved after Telstra adjusted the SIM provisioning.
Could you please confirm that everything is now working as expected so we can proceed to close this thread?
Best regards,
Yes Thanyou between help from tech support and Telstra tweeking the sim the issue appears to be resolved and I now have access to n78 and n5 SA. This is essential as the n5 often fills in some gaps when the 4g runs out in regional areas much the same b5 3g up till recently.
Just a question before you close the topic.
Is the hardware of the Rutm51 capable of covering n26 as telstra seem to be expanding there 850mhz spectrum and if so is it possible in the future for a firmware to expand the current n5 to n26.
Thankyou…
Hello,
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to expand the RUTM51’s capabilities to support 5G band N26. Band support is determined by the hardware specifications of the internal modem, and this cannot be extended or enabled through firmware updates.
All currently supported bands and frequencies for the RUTM51 can be found here:
Kind regards,
