RUTM50 Static IP SIM Issues

Hi.

We have customer using the RUTM50 (N. America) that I’m trying to setup with a UICC SIM card running on static IP T-Mobile 5G service. We have the correct static APN configured from our data provider and the RUTM50 is recognizing the SIM card info correctly. The router is connecting to the cell tower and reporting cell tower info too.

However, the router is not getting an IP from T-Mobile, nor is the data connection state changing off of “Disconnected”. There is no data flow, just basic connectivity to the cell tower. At random, I lose access to the modem settings as it seems to occasionally re-initialize.

I’ve since tried this on 7.15 and reverting to 7.14.3 with no difference. I’ve tried the same type of SIM on dynamic IP with T-Mobile and it works fine in the RUTM50. The same SIM on T-Mobile with static IP re-enabled works in other make/model routers.

Any ideas or additional settings to try? Otherwise, I’m going to try to static IP with Verizon but its been a lengthy process to configure this on the account side.

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for providing detailed information regarding your issue.

A couple of things to check before proceeding further:

  • For testing purposes, could you try setting the mobile connection to “IPv4 only” instead of “IPv4/IPv6” or “IPv6”?
  • Additionally, please verify that the authentication type (PAP/CHAP/None) matches what your data provider requires for the static APN.

If the issue persists after these checks, to assist you effectively, we’d like to handle this through our direct support channel. You should have received a support request form via email to the address you registered with on this forum. Kindly fill it out and include a reference to Ticket ID: 14168 when submitting it. For anyone facing a similar issue with T-Mobile 5G NSA in North America:

Static IP service is currently only available on 5G NSA networks. To ensure a successful data connection in this scenario, the PDP type should be set to IPv4/IPv6.

In this particular case, the customer resolved the issue by setting the mobile connection’s 5G mode to "NSA”:

Once this adjustment was made, the data connection was established successfully, basically, this was the solution.
